Meet Ryan Hendrickson - Ryan Hendrickson is a former U.S. Army Green Beret, combat veteran, and demolitions expert whose life changed forever after surviving a catastrophic improvised explosive device (IED) blast while serving in Afghanistan.
The explosion left him with severe injuries and a long road to recovery, but it did not end his commitment to serving others. Instead, it became the beginning of a new mission.
Today, Hendrickson works in Ukraine helping remove landmines and unexploded ordnance from farmland and civilian areas devastated by war. His remarkable journey is featured in the award-winning documentary Safe Ground.

Why This Story Matters - For many communities, the end of active fighting does not mean the end of danger.
Landmines continue to threaten lives years after conflicts fade from the headlines. In Ukraine, they prevent farmers from planting crops, families from returning home, and entire regions from rebuilding.
Safe Ground shines a light on one of the least visible consequences of war while celebrating the courage of those working to restore what has been lost. Through Ryan Hendrickson's journey, the film demonstrates how service, sacrifice, and hope can transform places marked by destruction into places of renewal.
From Combat to Restoration - Ukraine is now one of the most heavily mined countries in the world. Millions of acres of farmland and countless civilian areas remain contaminated by landmines and unexploded ordnance, posing a constant threat to families, farmers, and children.
Drawing on his military experience and specialized expertise, Hendrickson works alongside local teams to identify, remove, and destroy these deadly remnants of war.
Every mine removed represents more than a safer field. It represents a family's livelihood restored, a community protected, and a future made possible.
